Senior Software Engineer – Linux Kernel Engineer (Ethernet)

The Role:

RISCstar is seeking a highly skilled Linux Kernel Engineer with an embedded systems background. You must possess a strong background in the development of Ethernet drivers in the Linux kernel, knowledge of time sensitive networking and familiarity with the process of submitting code to the upstream Linux kernel. You must also demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of Linux kernel internals and device drivers, as you will also need to work in other subsystems. You will also have strong experience developing software for embedded systems based on Linux.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, optimize and debug Ethernet drivers in the Linux kernel.
Design, implement, optimize and debug time sensitive networking features in Ethernet drivers.
Port code from one version of the Linux kernel to another and refactor it for submission to the upstream Linux kernel.
Contribute to upstream open-source projects including the Linux kernel.

Required skills and experience:

5+ years of professional experience with Linux kernel development.
Experience working with Arm architectures and platforms built using Arm technology
Proven experience developing and debugging kernel Ethernet drivers
Proficiency with kernel debugging tools (e.g., ftrace, perf, kgdb) and performance profiling.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Hands-on experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded.
Proficiency in C programming.
Proficiency with Git
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong English language communication skills,.
Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through self discipline and self motivation, delivering according to a schedule.

Desired skills and experience:

Familiarity with ARM based embedded systems.
Knowledge of time sensitive networking (TSN)
Specific experience with stmmac Ethernet driver in the Linux kernel.
Experience developing software for a wide range of Linux kernel subsystems.
Experience with automated testing frameworks for kernel validation (e.g., LTP, kselftest).
Contributions to the Linux kernel or other open source projects.
Strong working knowledge of open source development tools and methodologies.
